Women of Distinction
Nominate a Woman of Distinction
Women of Distinction is part of a national Girl Scout program that celebrates the achievements of women. Our honorees are women whose personal and professional accomplishments make them positive role models who inspire girls to achieve their own goals and dreams. They exemplify the Girl Scout Promise and Law through ethical leadership and a commitment to making a difference in the lives of their fellow citizens through community service.
The 2011 Jackson area Women of Distinction were honored at a gala event on Thursday, September 29 at the Country Club of Jackson. In 2012, Girl Scouts of Greater Mississippi will hold events to honor Women of Distinction in each of our service areas – Meridian, Hattiesburg, Gulfport and Jackson.
Proceeds from Women of Distinction events help to extend Girl Scouting to underserved communities, and increase service to local troops, enables GSGMS to provide exciting, engaging and education programs and to offer financial assistance to girls who otherwise would not be able to participate in Girl Scout activities, opportunities, events or adventures.

2011 Jackson Area Women of Distinction honorees are Jill Beneke of Jackson; Dr. Paula Stewart Strange of Flowood; Bettie Delcomyn of Brandon; Mollie VanDevender of Jackson; Linda Parker of Bolton ; Carol Burger of Jackson; and Rosemary Aultman, Mayor of Clinton, Mississippi.
Leadership Council
The first Girl Scouts of Greater Mississippi Leadership Council was established in the Capital area in July 2011 to give community and business leaders the opportunity to become ambassadors for Girl Scouts. Members of the Leadership Council use their influence to help increase awareness and raise funds for our organization. In 2012, local Leadership Councils will be established in each region of GSGMS' 45-county service area.
For more information on the Girl Scouts of Greater Mississippi Leadership Councils, contact Chief Development Officer, Scherry Gilliland, CFRE, at sgilliland@gsgms.org.
